David Dunaief, M.D. Bio

 

David Dunaief, M.D. is a internist specializing in lifestyle/nutritional medicine. His focus is on the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases through nutrition, fitness and stress management. 

He regularly presents on a multitude of topics pertaining to lifestyle medicine.  Dr. Dunaief has presented at corporations such as Whole Foods; academic centers, such as the University of Pennsylvania; wellness expos; and scientific meetings across the country.

He has worked extensively with Dr. Joel Fuhrman, author of the New York Times bestseller Eat to Live, assisting with patient care and investigative research involving the results of Dr. Fuhrman’s high nutrient density (HND) diet with numerous diseases, such as diabetes and migraines.  

Dr. Dunaief presented the results of a recently-completed study on the HND diet with type 2 diabetes at the 2010 International Academy of Nutrition and Aging conference, sponsored by the University of New Mexico, School of Medicine.  The study’s abstract was published in June/July 2010 issue of the Journal of Nutrition, Health and Aging.

Dr. Dunaief has a diverse background in health care. Prior to becoming a physician, he worked in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries.  He was a biotech analyst on Wall Street, covering companies such as Amgen, Biogen, Genentech, Gilead Sciences and Centocor.  He also worked as a pharmaceutical sales representative, teaching physicians about several common therapies and educating them on a new drug launch.

He has had a lifelong passion for nutrition and fitness, and he credits his self-designed rehabilitation program with helping him overcome the limitations of cerebral palsy.  This has included over 20 years of intensive workout regimens that have vastly improved his situation.  

Dr. Dunaief received his medical degree from Stony Brook University Medical School in New York and completed his internship in internal medicine at Mercy Medical Center/University of Maryland in Baltimore. He graduated with high honors from Colgate University, where he received his B.A. in biology and religion. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, and Integrative Practitioner.
